If your Seagate hard drive denies you access or restricts you to read-only activities, there is likely an ownership conflict. This is particularly true for Seagate external drives that are used in multiple Windows accounts. Ownership of files, or that of the entire drive, might be purposefully or accidentally assigned to another user account. To regain full access, you must take ownership of the drive in Windows 7.
1.Connect your Seagate drive to your computer, if it is not already connected.

Click Start and then 'Computer' to launch Windows Explorer.
3.Right-click the Seagate drive letter and select 'Properties.'
5.Click 'Everyone' from the top 'Group or User Names' section to see the global permissions assigned for the Seagate drive. These permissions are listed in the lower Permissions section. Alternatively, click your username, if it is listed, to see your personal permissions.
6.Click 'Edit' and select 'Everyone.' Alternatively, click your username to assign personal ownership. If your name is not listed, click 'Add,' type your username in the 'Enter the Object Names to Select' field and click 'OK.'
7.Click the blank 'Full Control' check box in the Allow column to automatically place check marks in all fields.
8.Click 'Apply' and wait for the permissions to change. This could take several minutes.
